University of Tasmania

The University of Tasmania (UTAS) is a public research university, primarily located in Tasmania, Australia. Founded in 1890, it is Australia's fourth oldest university. Christ College, one of the university's residential colleges, was first proposed in 1840. founded in 1846, making it the oldest tertiary institution in the country. In 1978 the University of Tasmania took over two of the courses offered by the TCAE in Hobart, Pharmacy, and Surveying. In 1995, a new campus was opened at Burnie on the North-West Coast of Tasmania. In 2019, the University of Tasmania announced its intention to move from its Sandy Bay campus and into the Central Business District of Hobart.
