Its origins are in the Cambridge School of Art, founded by William John Beaumont, a Fellow of Trinity College at the University of Cambridge, in 1858. It became a university in 1999 and was renamed after Oxford University professor and author John Ruskin in 2005. It is one of the "post-1992 universities". The motto of the university is in Latin Excellentia per Societies, in English Excellence through Partnership. Anglia Ruskin has 39,400 students worldwide, with campuses in Cambridge, Chelmsford, Peterborough, and London.
