The university maintains the Herff College of Engineering, the Center for Earthquake Research and Information (CERI), and the Cecil C. The University of Memphis is classified among "R1: Doctoral Universities – Very High research activity". On July 1, 1994, Memphis State University changed its name again, to the current University of Memphis.
